Director Workshop September 2026

Ever wondered what it takes to bring a play from the page to the stage? Join directors Anna Johnson Andersen, Kyle LeMaire, and Morgan Bartholick for an interactive workshop exploring the art and craft of directing for the stage.

September 19 and 26 from 6pm-9pm at the Playhouse.

Space is limited to 8 participants. Suggested donation is $50.

(An additional workshop is planned for more advanced training building on the skills learned in this class. Dates to be determined.)

Five Christmases by Meghan Kathleen O’Connor

ABOUT THE SHOW:
Frances, in her last semester of earning a master’s degree in business, is eager to get started on her five-year plan: a job, a husband, kids ASAP. Celebrating Christmas for the first time ever away from her Chicago family, with grad school friend Owen, is where the story begins. A phone call home, seen live, introduces us to her classic quirky family: still-in-love Mom and Dad, princess sister, stoned cousin, feisty aunt and a flask-sipping grandma. We follow Frances for five Christmases as she searches for the right person to love and share her Aunt Jo’s Baby Toe salad, her dad’s holiday toast, and Grandma Jenny’s advice on love and marriage. Kind of a Hallmark a movie, but funnier and unpredictable.

• Frances: Female, 20’s, wholesome, lively, sarcastic, can be silly
• Owen: Male, 20’s, clever, caring, can be moody, even shy
• Gwen: Female, 50’s, Frances’ mom, excitable, loving, possessive
• Pat: Male, 50’s, Frances’ dad, a big softie, peacemaker
• Jenny: Female, 70’s, Frances’ grandma, sharp, unique, a contrast to her family
• Enid: Female, 20’s, Frances’ younger sister, competitive princess
• Jo: Female, 40’s, Frances’ aunt, Kirby’s mom, quirky and ditzy
• Kirby: Male, 20’s, Frances’ cousin, delinquent stoner with a heart of gold
• Kim: Female, 40’s, Owen’s mom, flighty, non-standard mother
• Mitch: Male, 20’s, motivated, self-assured, somewhat socially incomplete

A note about intimacy: The actors playing Frances and Owen will have kissing and/or other physically intimate moments. The actors playing Gwen and Pat are a married couple who share quick kisses and hugs. Actor playing Kirby needs to be comfortable playing drunk/stoned.

A note about age suggestions: In case actors are younger or older than playwright’s suggestions, please know that skills may overrule the listed age.

A note about time commitment: The final rehearsal schedule will be based on conflicts of actors. Kim and Mitch each have one appearance, so rehearsals would be limited. If available, their voices may be used for an off-stage Hallmark-like movie playing in the background.

Actors should arrive ten minutes before start time to complete the audition paperwork, if not completed in advance.  Please bring a list of all conflicts between October 12^th and Dec. 20^th, if audition form is not completed in advance. Auditions will consist of a brief warm-up, a walk-a bout, cold readings from the script and some improv.

Copies of the script are available for perusal at the Port Townsend, Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks public libraries. This is a brand new play making its debut opening at PACP.
